Like any small business we can sometimes get jaded by the financial side of things. When you're pouring your heart and soul into something only for the tax man to coming knocking each quarter and demand his cut!
We wanted to create something that paid homage to the working class, to the small to medium size businesses that are the backbone of any economy and we wanted to make sure those that had wins throughout the financial year, had something to celebrate with. Naturally, beer was our first choice and as such, End of Financial Beer (a fun play on words from End of Financial Year, was born!).
The brothers wanted a brand that wasn't going to be your quintessential building logo and was going to be more of a representation of the type of homes and buildings they create and wanted to continue to create.
They wanted to appeal to people who were interested in creating something truly bespoke or with a unique touch. They wanted to be represented as master craftsmen, with a penchant for architecturally designed homes.
We joked with the guys that they didn't know what they wanted until they knew what they didn't want. This is often the case when people can't quite articulate what they want but have something in their minds eye but by telling us what kind of work they wanted to do and how they saw their business moving forward, it was actually a great brief to start with.
We also understood that this time of year was a gruelling, hectic time for accountants and payroll officers (of whom pay our bills) so we wanted them to be able to get a laugh out of their work, so we designed a label based around money, with profit and loss puns and quips about instant asset write-offs and accruals.
Handing it out to our clients (mostly the accounts teams) as a thank you for the financial year that was, we had an immediate and great response. The beer (provided by Earth Beer Co) was great and the jokes were even better. Our clients appreciated the gesture and immediately started asking for more and what we were going to do for the next year! We were also pleasantly surprised for the project to win a Merit award in the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA) Awards which are commonly referred to as the highest calibre of work in the country.
Cheers to that!
